Threepeat
Tomorrow it begins again – the month of November, and with it NaNoWriMo. This will be my third year. In 2004 I had a bit of beginner’s luck, and knocked off 50k words of The War Inside (then another 30k in December). Last year I went somewhat over my head, attempting epic fantasy (Tales from Spire City).
Changes this year.
-
Stick to the Rules. It worked for War Inside – don’t try serializing the thing, or starting early. Just shoot for the high word count and see what emerges.
-
Keep it short and simple. Nothing epic here. I’ll be fine with a novella.
-
Back to first person. Writing in first person in quicker and can stand up without as much plotting. Coming up with compelling yet twisty plot on a deadline is what killed Spire City, we’ll see how it goes this year.
I’ll keep you updated. And if you’re an aspiring writer, or just have a lot of free time on your hands, check out the site and participate!
