Threepeat

Tomorrow it begins again – the month of November, and with it NaNoWriMo. This will be my third year. In 2004 I had a bit of beginner’s luck, and knocked off 50k words of The War Inside (then another 30k in December). Last year I went somewhat over my head, attempting epic fantasy (Tales from Spire City).

Changes this year.

  1. Stick to the Rules. It worked for War Inside – don’t try serializing the thing, or starting early. Just shoot for the high word count and see what emerges.

  2. Keep it short and simple. Nothing epic here. I’ll be fine with a novella.

  3. Back to first person. Writing in first person in quicker and can stand up without as much plotting. Coming up with compelling yet twisty plot on a deadline is what killed Spire City, we’ll see how it goes this year.

I’ll keep you updated. And if you’re an aspiring writer, or just have a lot of free time on your hands, check out the site and participate!
